Rachel update

Yesterday we took our first family pictures! I know, three years later, right? Well, we've been busy.

Anyhow, we went out to Gruene (pronounced like Green), Texas which pretty much looks like what you think a small 1900s town in Texas would look like. It's really cute and we got some great pictures. One of Rachel, in particular, stands out. I wish I had it now - but we brought the purple butterfly/fairy wings my friend Kay gave her and she is sitting on the ground looking up and looks, literally, like a little angel. So adorable. I can't wait for people to see it.

In other Rachel news, she recognizes a lot of letters now. Her teacher is so clever at school because she has all the kids learn the first letter of their name -"R" for Rachel - and now she recognizes several letters because of the kids with different first names - "T" for Tristan/ "P" for Peyton, etc. It's so cool to see her recognize letters and try to "read" books now. We also have flashcards the school gives us with different phrases they learn in school and I try and use those sometimes. I'll be so sad when she leaves this classroom, but her teacher told me the next one is really good too and not to worry. I believe her because she's not exactly modest. She knows she's a great teacher and that's ok. ;)

Rachel is also learning Spanish words and numbers which is weird for me. Weird because I really don't know Spanish. I know, I know, I moved to San Antonio. I had been here, literally once, before I accepted the job, did you know that? I moved on a leap of faith (and Jonathan had never even been!). Anyhow, I learned French in school, although we had a brief Spanish period in, I think, sixth grade. So I know just about as much as Rachel does now. Which freaks me out. She'll probably be bilingual. Well, at least I'll have a translator. People sprinkle Spanish phrases in everyday conversation here all the time and I'm such a Midwesterner. I stick out like a sore thumb with my pronunciations!

She also has - knock on wood - been sleeping through the night for about the last 2-3 weeks. This is amazing to me. I feel like a different person since my sleep isn't interrupted all the time now. I'm not sure why. Her pull up is definitely less damp than it used to be, so I'm wondering if she was waking up when she went potty in her pull up. I don't know. Some people are telling me to move her off pull ups at night, but I'm just not ready for that. I'd like to enjoy my sleep for a little while please!

Today we're thinking of going to the pumpkin patch since we haven't gotten our pumpkins yet. I need to decorate the house, but with all this construction, I'm just not feeling up to it. Everything is dusty and that makes me not want to put anything out there to get filthy. But I'll get around to it - Rachel loves helping me now and I'm sure she'll love decorating too.
