Trader Joe's How I Love Thee
One of the greatest things for us in Barrington was that Trader Joe's was in the next suburb over. We grew to love, and rely on, their frozen dinner and desserts. Not so impressed with the fresh food/meat/dairy, but the frozen stuff was amazing. We still had to go to Jewel, or "The Jewels" as true Chicagoans called it, for other items, but we loved the variety and options. My first week here I went to the local grocery story, HEB. HEB is similar to pretty much any other grocery store but the weird thing about them is that they cater to their neighborhood. So some stores here ofter more Mexican food, some offer more Jewish food (yes, believe it or not there is a contingent of Jewish folks here), etc. The one by our apartment apparently catered to the dregs of society. I stopped going to that one after that visit! The one out by our house is a HEB Plus and it's huge. It's nice, but huge. A trip there isn't quick. We also have a Super Target across the street and sometimes shop there. But that's pretty much it - HEB and Super Target. I think there are a couple Whole Foods here, but they're all the way in Alamo Heights which is about 30-40 minutes away.
But then yesterday came the news that TJ's is targeting San Antonio!!! Thank the LORD! But then I heard they're looking at Alamo Heights too. :( I'm thinking of flooding Trader Joe's headquarters with requests to come out by us - I will pay to shop there folks it's that good. So come on TJ's, give a loyal fan some love!
